In the seventh inning of a tie game at Novi High School, the season was on the line for the Marlins, and the pressure was on junior pitcher Andrea Elmore.

Senior Allysen Eads capped a fine track career at Mercy High School by winning both distance races May 19 in the Catholic League A-B Division girls championship meet at Livonia Ladywood.

Farmington Hills Mercy waited six years to win another regional championship in girls lacrosse and finally achieved it Friday night with a 16-11 victory over Dexter at Farmington High School.

The Marlins will play Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood in a Division 2 semifinal game at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Okemos High School.

For much of the first half, Farmington Hills Mercy and Walled Lake Northern were pitted against each other in an evenly matched lacrosse battle and were deadlocked on the scoreboard Wednesday.

That changed quickly and completely as the Marlins took charge and went on to win the Division 2 girls regional semifinal game at Farmington High School, 17-9.

Junior Andrea Elmore made sure Mercy High School had a great start to the Division 1 postseason softball tournament Tuesday.

It was a memorable performance by Elmore, who pitched a perfect game and led the No. 5-ranked Marlins to a 12-0 victory over host Harrison in a predistrict game.

FARMINGTON HILLS — Playing in a weekend tournament where the theme was to raise money for breast cancer research, Alec Lesko wanted to find a way to loosen his team up.

So, the morning of, the Farmington Hills Mercy softball coach pulled his best player aside and offered her a chance to do what so few in the sport ever get.

Farmington Hills Mercy had the best possible response to its disappointment at not being able to play for the Catholic League softball championship and a possible third straight title.

The Marlins won the Mattawan Invitational by defeating Portage Central, the state’s No. 1-ranked team in Division 1, in the final game and restored their confidence with a 9-5 victory.
