Farmington Hills Mercy is a stout defensive team, no matter what style it’s playing, but the half-court trap has been the defense that has propelled the Marlins to the Class A quarterfinals, helping them completely stifle Walled Lake Western, 35-14, in Thursday’s regional finals.

When you've got nearly 50 kids who either already know how to dance or are willing to learn, you might as well put them to good use.

That seems to be the philosophy they're using at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, where the school's drama club is preparing for its production of the Broadway icon, "42nd Street." The production hits the Mercy stage March 10-12.

Everything the 5-foot-6 senior guard threw up at the rim seemed to turn to gold as she led the Marlins to a come-from-behind 47-42 win over favorite Hartland in the Class A regional girls basketball semifinal at North Farmington.

Marlin cagers move on the regional against Hartland

Farmington Hills Our Lady of Mercy is moving on in the Class A girls basketball state tournament.

The Marlins slipped past neighborhood rival North Farmington Friday night, 32-30, in the district championship game played at Farmington High School. The low-scoring game was close all the way.
