Mercy High School rejoices for 2019 Heart of Mercy Award recipients Maggie Dwyer ’19 and English Teacher Mr. Steve Morgan who live out the values of Human Dignity, Service, Justice, Mercy, and Option for the Poor. Congratulations and thank you for being faithful and compassionate people of God who make a difference to everyone in our Mercy family!
Reflections about Maggie:
- Maggie is a quiet leader. Her actions are an example for all and she is never boastful or attention seeking about all she does.
- Maggie puts God and others before herself.
- Maggie lights up a room when she walks in and will stop whatever she is doing to listen and comfort others.
- Maggie always does what is right, even when no one is watching. She brings a smile to the face of all she encounters. As a teacher, she even takes time to check on me.
Reflections about Mr. Morgan:
- Mr. Morgan is one of the reasons I get up in the morning and go to school. He is a light in S hall and cares about his students as if they are family.
- Mr. Morgan exudes positivity. He respects all and makes people feel important.
- He creates a safe and secure environment for students and never turns anyone away.
- He is humble and serves all without recognition.
These inspirational school leaders join the other awardees who not only live these values themselves, but also encourage others by example to live them.
Francis Ward, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in the United States, spoke of Catherine McAuley and described her thus, “She saw the world and its people in terms of God’s love, she gave love to everyone who needed love, and she cared for everyone who needed care.” This vision urges us to continue in her footsteps.
God bless Maggie and and Mr. Morgan!
