Diane Dietz '78 U of M Jersey Retired

We are thrilled to celebrate Diane Dietz, 1978 Mercy alumna and University of Michigan women’s basketball legend, as her iconic No. 21 jersey was raised to the rafters at Crisler Center last Sunday!

A true trailblazer, Diane led Mercy basketball to four consecutive state championship appearances before going on to an extraordinary career at Michigan, where she scored 2,076 points, setting a program record that stood for 35 years. She is also a member of the Mercy High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

This honor marks the first women’s basketball jersey ever retired at the University of Michigan - a milestone richly deserved. From Farmington Hills Mercy to Ann Arbor, Diane’s legacy exemplifies leadership, excellence, and the power of opportunity.
