Class of 2025 Salutatorian
Tess O'Donnell - University of Michigan
It is an honor to recognize Tess as this year’s Salutatorian. Tess has embraced the many opportunities that Mercy offers, especially those that reflect our Core Value of principled leadership. Her contributions span across many areas of our school community. As Editor-in-Chief of Newsprint, a National Honor Society Officer, Cross Country Captain, and a Link Crew Leader and Commissioner, she has led with both conviction and grace.
Yet, Tess knows that true leadership is not just about holding titles. As she wisely shared, “It’s about who you are and what you do with that knowledge.” This perspective has guided her as she serves others, particularly through her volunteer work with young students with learning challenges, dedicating two hours each week to making a difference in their lives.
Her commitment to excellence extends to the classroom, where Tess has demonstrated exceptional academic rigor. Maintaining a 4.00 GPA while completing five AP courses and a challenging honors curriculum throughout her high school career is a testament to her perseverance and intellectual curiosity. Her ability to balance demanding coursework with meaningful leadership and service reflects both her discipline and her passion for learning.
Through the nomination process, her classmates described her as an enthusiastic learner who is passionate about her studies. This passion is evident not only in her academic success but also in the way she inspires those around her to strive for their best.
Tess’s commitment to faith is both personal and evolving. “Mercy has taught me to see God in others and be more relational,” she says. This understanding has shaped how she approaches her relationships—with kindness, respect, and genuine care.
For Tess, the Mercy sisterhood has been transformative. She knows that the world needs the voices of her Mercy sisters and believes deeply that “being a woman who makes a difference can’t just be words—it must be shaped in our personal identity.”
We congratulate Tess on being Mercy Salutatorian and wish her the best as she plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall to study biology, on a pre-med track. Tess hopes to earn a doctor of medicine and work with pediatric patients.
Congratulations, Tess and thank you for sharing your talents with Mercy!
