Class of 2028 Service Requirement Update

As we move toward final exams, I encourage you to have a conversation with your daughter about her service requirements at Mercy.

As a reminder, all 10th grade students are required to complete four hours of service to Mercy High School, along with one service experience (8-10 hours) in one of the following Sisters of Mercy Critical Concern areas: Immigration, Racism, Earth, Women and Children, or Nonviolence focusing on a different area from 9th grade. This service experience must take place with a single non-profit, non-Mercy organization and may be completed in one session or over multiple visits.

In addition, students are required to complete a brief reflection in Schoology. Upon completion of these requirements, students earn 0.25 credits toward graduation, which will be reflected on their transcript.

There are still many opportunities available for your daughter to complete both her in-school and out-of-school service hours. We regularly post opportunities on MobileServe, and beginning in May, teachers will also update a spreadsheet with in-school service opportunities.

Please note that the service reflection is due May 20th. If the reflection is not submitted by that date, a zero will be recorded for the assignment.

Looking ahead, as your daughter transitions into her junior year, the service requirement increases.

11th grade requirements include:

Five hours of service to Mercy High School

  • One service experience (12-15 hours) in a different Critical Concern area than the one selected in 9th grade and 10th grade

This experience must also be completed with a single non-profit, non-Mercy organization. We strongly encourage students to begin working toward these hours during the summer months.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. If your daughter needs assistance logging her hours, she is always welcome to stop by my office.

Mrs. Holly Markiecki-Bennetts

Director of Faith in Action
