Class of 2023 College Application Presentation

Class of 2023 College Application Presentation

Class of 2023 Parent/Guardian,

Our Mercy Juniors have been busy the past week laying a foundation for their college application journey. In partnership with the English department, Juniors are working on their main college essay. This main essay will be used for many of their college applications.

Juniors also attended a class meeting yesterday, May 25th facilitated by Counseling. The presentation focused on various aspects of the college application process. Students learned about how to request a teacher letter of recommendation, tasks to complete on SCOIR, building and finalizing the college list, supplemental essays, ACT/SAT testing and how to create a Common Application profile.

We have included the student presentation here. Additionally, you may access the “Fall Kick-Off” presentation for Junior families here which Counseling presented to parents this past November.

As parents, the best gift you can give your student during the initial part of this journey is to follow their lead. Allow them to ask questions and set aside one day every week or so where you can talk about what they are learning about regarding their colleges.

In the Fall, we will have a follow-up class meeting and presentation, an individualized meeting for the student and an evening parent meeting. The goal is to maximize the voice of your Senior in this process.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the college journey,

Sincerely,

The Mercy High School College Counseling Staff
