2022-23 Mercy Handbook & Policy Updates
Handbook
We are pleased to share with you the 2022-23 Mercy Student & Family Handbook. This is a living document that will be updated as needed to reflect current policies. We are still in the process of some minor fine-tuning, yet hope you find this to be a valuable resource to reference and support your daughter throughout the school year.
Please note a handbook acknowledgement form for both students and parents/guardians to sign is forthcoming in September 2022.
Academic Updates
Terms, Finals, and Semesters
On PowerSchool, semesters have been divided into terms and finals (T1 & F1 for Semester 1, T2 & F2 for Semester 2). All of the coursework for the Term is weighted 80% and Finals are weighted 20% to total 100% for the Semester grade. This new delineation will make it easier for teachers to calculate final semester grades. On the mobile app if you click on one of your classes T1 and S1 currently display under the course name. F1 will be visible sometime in December. Only the semester grade will be displayed and recorded on your report card and transcript.
Weighted GPA
Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, any student currently enrolled or previously enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) course will have a recalculated GPA, creating a weighted GPA. This will apply to the class of 2023 and beyond. Each AP course will receive .5 GPA Added Value Points, so an A will be worth 4.5, A- 4.2, B+ 3.8, etc... Both the unweighted and weighted GPA will be displayed on a student's transcript. Colleges process GPA in many different ways. A weighted GPA scale will allow students to benefit if the colleges they are applying to utilize the weighted GPA for admissions or scholarship purposes. Please note: The standard 4.0 GPA will continue to be used for honors and awards as well as National Honor Society and Valedictorian/Salutatorian selection.
