"Golden Girls" at Mercy's Graduation
Members from the Class of 1958 celebrated the golden anniversary of their graduation from Our Lady of Mercy High School at the 2008 Graduation Ceremony. Over 20 members of the Class of '58 enjoyed dining with members of the Board of Trustees and the Alumnae Board, leafing through old photos and yearbooks, and catching up with one another.
Sister Pat Lamb, RSM '58 reflected on the event, "what a special moment- a journey of 50 years that all began at Mercy." Other members of the class shared their thanks. "Thank you so much to the Alumnae Committee and the Class of 2008 for honoring the Class of 1958, it is lovely," commented Joan Dulas Novock '58."Very nice and generous of the school to host this event. Thank you! It was a grand school to have attended years ago and it appears to have maintained its standards" said Beth Crowley Wojciuch '58.
Many special thanks to all the members of the Class of 1958 who attended the event!
Mercy Girls Make a Difference . . . Even with Duct Tape
One of Mercy's recent graduates, Haley Cavanaugh '08 and her date Keith of UD High stuck out at prom this year. Haley entered the Stuck at Prom Duck Brand Duct Tape Scholarship Contest and attended Mercy's prom decked out in a duct tape creation. To enter the contest she had to make her prom attire out of Duct Tape, wear it to prom, submit a photo to the contest and then be selected as a top 10 finalist by judges.
Scholarship winners are selected from finalists by internet votes starting on June 13 until June 29. Help Haley win a scholarship by visiting stuckatprom.com and vote for Haley/Keith #4199.

Golfing FORE Mercy
Every year this team outdoes themselves with a coordinating outrageous outfit for the Meg Mallon Golf Outing and this year was no exception! Lori Macdonald '81, Karen Kluk Rotondo '81, Caroline Chapman Arbour '80 and Julie "Tooter" Moll '80 strutted their stuff in matching shirts, hats and sunglasses with blinking lights. What outfit isn't complete with blinking sunglasses?
In addition to this fabulous foursome, Peg Hungerman '79 flew in from Pennsylvania with a friend to join her sister Marie Hungerman '78 and aunt to make up the "winning chick foursome". They were one point shy of winning so we hope to see them back next year to live up to their name!
Kathy Antaya '80 was the winner of the crazy, confusing reverse raffle and took home the pot of money prize. Congrats Kathy!
LPGA player and Mercy Alumna Meg Mallon '81 took a swing and a photo with each foursome and swapped memories with the other 26 Alumnae under sunny skies.
THANK YOU to Meg Mallon, and her devoted brothers Paul and John who continue to give back to Mercy year after year. Special thanks to Kathy Hattam Wisne '71 for sponsoring the dinner. To Steve Garagiola, husband of Mercy alumna Carol Hackett Garagiola '73 and father of Katie '99 and Megan '02, for being a wonderful emcee.
We appreciate our loyal Mercy golfers, guests, parents, alumnae, and sponsors. Your commitment to Mercy is amazing!
Men of Mercy
A fond farewell to two special Mercy men, Mr. John Gernacy and Mr. Doug Engler, who retired after many decades of invaluable and dedicated service. Thank you to all alumnae who sent in cards and emails to wish Mr. Gernacy and Mr. Engler a happy retirement.
Booklets with all your notes were given to these men of Mercy at the Honors Convocation and they were touched by your memories and warm wishes.
Registrar and man of many hats Mr. Gernacy is retiring after 40 loyal years. Mr. Gernacy was and still is a teacher. Even once he joined the administrative team, he kept teaching his AP European History class. He has also been a department chair, staff meeting coordinator, arts & crafts show supervisor, graduation guru, senior all night party leader, and most wonderful master of all schedules.
THANK YOU, Mr. Gernacy for attending hundreds of banquets and proms and not to mention making Mercy run like clockwork!
Over the past 36 years, our own veteran counselor Mr. Engler has prepared registrations, written countless letters of recommendations, kept confidences, dried tears, watched girls enter Mercy, move through the halls, graduate, attend and complete college, take on careers, and many have sent their own daughters to Mercy. His smile has been infectious for the better part of nearly four decades serving the students of Mercy High School.
THANK YOU, Mr. Engler for always lending a compassionate ear and helping students grow into women of Mercy.
You Did It Again!
Thanks to the support of Mercy alumnae at the Tea for Tuition and those who participated in the Mother's Day mailing the Alumnae Association is pleased to award $1,000 scholarship to 15 deserving students.
Thank you to all alumnae who contributed this year to make these scholarships possible.
