Another TEA-riffic Event

Over 200 women attended the 4th Annual Tea for Tuition at Mercy on April 27.  The gym was filled with 25 tables decorated in themes that ranged from spring showers to asian bamboo and transformed the gymnasium  into a tea parlor.

Sister Regina Marie Doelker, RSM presented the 2008 Distinguished Alumna Award to Mary Pat McDougall '56.  Mary Pat was nominated by her classmates for her service to her community and parish and is a woman who exemplifies the Mercy Values.  Click here to read more about our 2008 Distinguished Alumna.

THANK YOU to those who attended the event and also to those who supported the event as an AbsenTEA  donor.   $11,000 was raised in support of the Tuition Assistance Program.

TEE Off FORE Mercy!

Word has it that '79 alumna Peg Hungerman is bringing a Pennsylvania friend and flying in to join sister alum Marie Hungerman Rumbley '78 and their 68-year old golfing aunt to golf in this year's Meg Mallon Golf Outing on June 16th.

"This is a first," says Peg "my first Meg Mallon Golf Outing, but I have been a fan of Meg for years!  She is my idol!" she exclaims.  Not only is she registering an Eagle Sponsorship for her company, Dunn and Bradstreet, where she has been a sales manager for 24 years, but she claims to be bringing "the winning chick foursome."  One of their golfers has a "7 handicap."  Look out ladies!

Do we suspect that the Class of 1981 Fun Club will have a little friendly competition this year...?

Every year, about half of the course for the Meg Mallon Golf Outing consists of Mercy alumnae.  If you golf at all, novice or pro, you are welcome to join us June 16th at Western Golf and Country Club.  Hurry!  Only a couple spots are left for this fun event!

Click here for the Meg Mallon brochure, registration form, and sponsorship information.

Alumna is 2008 Teacher of the Year

Congrats go out to Colleen McMaster Rozman '81 who is Mercy's 2008 Teacher of the Year!  This is her 11th year at Mercy and she has taught Biology, Chemistry and Psychology.

Students who nominated Colleen noted that she is "easy to talk to, takes time to be sure students understand material, is enthusiastic in class, and always willing to lend a helping hand."  We are proud to say Colleen is one of our very best!

Hola Class of 2012

On Friday, May 2, 125 members of the Class of 2012 celebrated an early cinco de mayo at the Freshwomen Fiesta. The evening of open gym, swim, games, face painting and pizza allowed Mercy's newest students to meet one another and their Mercy Mentor leaders prior to summer.

With students coming from about 70 different cities, the casual evening provided reassurance to girls that they will make new friends and establish lasting friendships!

Do you have a daughter, niece, neighbor or friend who would be a perfect Mercy girl?  Registration for the Class of 2012 is still taking place.  Contact Maureen Stirling in the Admissions Office at mpstirling@mhsmi.org.
Sisters of Mercy Form West Midwest Community

The Sisters of Mercy, Regional Community of Detroit, are beginning a new moment in history.  As of July 1, 2008 they will join the regional communities of Chicago (Illinois), Cedar Rapids (Iowa), Omaha (Nebraska), Auburn (California) and Burlingame (California) to become the West Midwest Community. Although the central administrative site will be in Omaha, the Detroit sisters will continue to live an active presence at the current ministries in their areas.

In response to today's needs, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas are reconfiguring 26 regional communities into six. Numbering 4,200 sisters, these communities form the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, with offices in Silver Springs, Maryland.  Although the American institute comprises the largest group of Sisters of Mercy, there are similar Sisters of Mercy institutes throughout the English speaking world, totaling 10,000 women religious and thousands of Associate Members.

Founded by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland in 1831, the Sisters of Mercy are dedicated to the service of the poor, sick, uneducated and to those in need of compassion, especially women and children. The first House of Mercy in Dublin is now the International Center for the Mercy Sisters around the globe. The reorganization of the American communities will better strengthen and enable the sisters to fulfill their mission. The works of mercy that you care about, including  Mercy High School, will continue to be a commitment and focus.  The Sisters of Mercy ask your continued support in keeping the mission of Mercy a reality.
