** March President's Notes **
It is hard to believe that February has come and gone and with it so many exciting Mothers Club activities and events. Now March is here and with it the promise of springtime. Mothers Club is in full swing and busy as usual!
We had our monthly meeting on February 1st and this time we had a special guest, Doug Doyle, the president of the Dads Club. The Dads Club has taken on a raffle and they are running this event on their own for the first time ever. Because of the timing of everything, the Dads Club needs the Mothers Club help selling raffle tickets. I am so proud to say that of course the moms were willing to chip in and help out so we will be selling the Irish castle raffle tickets to help out the Dads Club. The raffle drawing is March 17th so everything has to be submitted to Doug before then. I will be collecting ticket stubs and money at our March 1st meeting and I will have more tickets available should you need more to sell. The second Mercy Open House was held on Sunday, February 7th. By all accounts it was a great success. Thank you to Gwen Prater and the School Hospitality Committee for helping out at the Open House as well as the New Student Information Meeting which was held just a couple weeks later, on February 22nd. Although the New Student Information Night was held on the day of the snow storm, moms from the Committee showed up ready and willing to help. Thanks ladies for braving the snow! The School Hospitality Committee has one more event, Parent Teacher Conferences on March 11th, so if you are interested in helping out just contact Gwen at gprater10@aol.com
On February 18th the Mothers Club helped host the Staff Appreciating Dinner. Thank you to Nancy Auffenberg and Kim Mizzi who took care of everything that evening. The dinner is a yearly event where we take the time to thank all the teachers and staff members of Mercy for their dedication and commitment to our daughters. The evening also recognizes those staff members and teachers who have reached specific milestones in their Mercy careers. There were 20 honorees this year; people who have served anywhere from 5 to 40 years at Mercy. How blessed are we to have such dedicated people working with our daughters!
February was also the month for our big event--the Auction. Many thanks to Theresa Saroki, Kari Weber and the entire Auction Committee, you guys did a fantastic job. Also a special thank you to Karen Racinski, Rima Jasser and Kim Mizzi, our Mothers Club auction shoppers. As you know the Mothers Club donates items to the Auction. Kim, Karen and Rima came up with ideas for baskets and then shopped for the items. They created and filled 5 baskets! Thanks to all the Auction volunteers the evening was just outstanding! What a fabulous event it was, the auction items, the food, the friendship, the people, it really was a wonderful evening and what a great way to help out the school and our girls. (Hope everyone got the goodies they really wanted as there were just so many things to choose from!) If you could not join us for the auction, but still want to make a donation, Witte's Wish list is one great place to start. The school would like to get some new microphones for the auditorium so that we can hear our girls as they inspire us with their words of wisdom. Just contact the Advancement Department and they can help you help our daughters be heard. So Auction Committee, breathe a sigh of relief you did a fantastic job, now kick back and relax there is nothing going on in Mothers Club until...March 1st!
On March 1st we will have our monthly meeting. Again we will have our social time from 6:30 to 7:00 and then at 7:00 our meeting. We will have Tom Sklut, Advancement Director, joining us so that he can tell us about an exciting presentation coming to Mercy. The event is entitled "Women Mean Business". You can get more information about the symposium at http://www.mhsmi.org/advancement/women_mean_business_2010.html Oh, and moms, Mothers Club is not hosting the presentation; we just get to sit back, relax and enjoy the evening with our daughters.
March also brings with it additional service opportunities. March 1st and 2nd is the New Student Registration from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. If you can help out, please contact Carol Kirkland (carolkirkland@mac.com) to see if she still needs volunteers for either of those days. Then we have Parent Teacher Conferences on March 11th and again Gwen Prater can tell you if she needs any more volunteers for that event.
Don't forget the Mother Daughter Banquet on March 23rd. This event is held at the Sheraton Inn of Novi, on Haggerty Road just north of 8 mile road. The festivities begin at 6:30 and tickets can be purchased at school. This is a very entertaining evening hosted by Ms. Linskey and it is a wonderful way to reconnect with your daughter(s).
Finally, the Sweepstakes kick off is on March 24th. This is a chance for the girls to help out with fundraising for their school by selling raffle tickets. Remember this is not a one shot raffle; there are monthly drawings from June to March which means people can support the school and have 25 chances to win! Thank you again ladies for your support and commitment to the Mothers Club. We are so blessed to have such outstanding moms doing all you do for our girls and the school.

Mercy Mothers Club
Membership: Membership in the Mothers Club is open to all women (parent or guardian) of a current Mercy High School student. Generally meetings are held the first Monday of the month. Be sure to check the calendar for exact dates and times.
Purpose and Goals:
1. To support Mercy High School spiritually, socially and financially.
2. To develop closer relationships with our daughters.
3. To support fellow members of the Mothers Club and Dads Club.
Committees:
The Mothers Club is responsible for a variety of committees and activities throughout the year. Each event is chaired by a member of the Mothers Club and is staffed by volunteers. To read more about the committees and what they do, click on the committee names below. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact the chairperson of the committee. Their names and contact information can be accessed by clicking the appropriate tab at the top of the page. To volunteer for a committee just follow the directions below or click on the appropriate tab at the top of the page. The Mothers Club truly appreciates your help. Without your time and talents the Mothers Club simply cannot be a success.
