Ways to Make a Difference at Mercy

If you have benefited either directly or indirectly from the Mercy experience, you are invited to show your appreciation, and, in the process, secure these benefits for others. Because widespread participation is vital to our success, we welcome all gifts, large and small. We also welcome the gift of your time in the many volunteer opportunities that are available. Here are a few of the giving options that invite you to invest in Mercy and make a difference in the lives of young women.

Leave A Legacy

No work of charity can be more productive of good to society, or more conducive to the happiness of the poor, than the careful instruction of women.
-- Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy

There are numerous gift opportunities that will ensure our mission of the "Careful instruction of young women" for the next 60 years. We would be pleased to have you collaborate with us through Estate Planning. Bequests offer significant tax benefits to the donor and are always a tremendous benefit to Mercy High School.

The will is one of the most popular vehicles for making a long-range gift. Please take a moment to prayerfully consider a few planned giving options. Although financial and legal advisors are primary resources for estate planning, Nadine Maynard, Director of Development, 248-476-8922, can assist you with questions specific to Mercy High School.

Bequest
Provide for a gift to Mercy through your will without jeopardizing your financial income. Bequests can take various forms and are simple to do.

Specific Bequest
A specific bequest permits you to designate Mercy as the recipient of a specific dollar amount or a specific piece of property. These may include cash, securities, real estate or tangible personal property.

Percentage Bequest
Rather than a specific amount, the donor may bequeath a percentage of the estate to Mercy High School.

Restricted Bequest
Your bequest may be restricted to a specific purpose. You may wish to memorialize a family member by establishing a fund to provide tuition assistance or support for a particular Mercy program.

Additional Ways to Give:

  • Annual Giving — Gifts to Mercy’s Annual Fund provide essential support for the operating budget and are applied directly to annual expenses. They help support academics and athletics, pay staff salaries, provide funds to keep our equipment and technology up-to-date and help with the ongoing maintenance of the school’s facilities and grounds.
  • Endowment — This fund ensures that Mercy has a permanent source of money for its future growth. Gifts are made to the principal; monies are invested, and only the income on the investment is available for expenditure.
  • Tuition Assistance — Gifts to the Tuition Assistance program assist families in need and help make a Mercy education available to students from a broad range of economic backgrounds.   Click here for more about Mercy Named Scholarships.

Gifts to any of these three major funds can be gifts of cash, stocks, bonds and mututal funds. Matching corporate gifts are also encouraged.

Other ways to make a difference include:

  • Commemorative Giving — Remember or honor a loved one in a special way with a gift to Mercy High School. Celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, an occasion of thanks with a donation to Mercy and a special personalized card will be sent on your behalf.
  • Gifts-In-Kind — Businesses and individuals can give gifts of materials and services to benefit the school.
  • Annual Mercy Fundraisers — Show your spirit and support our summer Meg Mallon Golf Outing, the February Benefit Auction and our spring Sweepstakes Drive.

The following ways may seem small but quickly add up when many get involved:

Promote Mercy to your friends • Shop at GFS, Meijer and Target in Mercy's name • Donate a car/boat to Charity Motors for Mercy • Volunteer time and talents • Shop @ schoolpop.com • Use Todd's Services for your Landscaping
