Mercy High School was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1945 to provide a Catholic education based on holistic learning and academic excellence. It prepares young women from throughout the metropolitan Detroit area for their critical roles in contemporary society. Grounded in the heritage of the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy High School nurtures a living, supportive faith community. Our 742 students engage in rigorous college preparatory courses while simultaneously pursuing extracurricular interests in the performing arts, athletics, the sciences or community affairs. Enriched by students from diverse backgrounds, Mercy fosters spiritual, intellectual, moral physical and cultural development.
The President and Principal model of school administration at Mercy High School is one of both specific and shared responsibilities. The Principal is accountable to the President and is responsible for the internal operations, including instructional leadership. The President is responsible for the business aspects of the administration including budgeting, finances and investments, advancement operations, strategic planning, public relations, buildings and grounds and the external operations of the institution. Applicants must possess the minimum of a Master’s degree with demonstrated experience in educational administration; secondary school experience preferred. Familiarity with public relations, communications and governance operations are valuable assets.
Some of the qualities necessary to the role of President include strong leadership skills that inspire excellence and cooperation from all stakeholders. The new President must demonstrate positive convictions about the education and empowerment of young women, a comprehensive working knowledge of school finance, investments and budgeting, and the ability to promote a strong institutional advancement program. The successful candidate will be a member of the Catholic Church, embrace the mission of Mercy High School and possess a strong grasp of the Sisters of Mercy charism, traditions and core values.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
